Meta Releases Llama 4 AI Models, Taking on OpenAI and Google

Meta has made a significant leap forward in the AI race by releasing two new large language models under its Llama 4 family—Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick. These models have been designed with versatility and performance in mind. Llama 4 Scout is optimized to run efficiently on a single Nvidia H100 GPU and offers a massive 10-million-token context window, allowing it to handle extremely long conversations or documents. It reportedly outperforms competitors such as Google’s Gemma 3 and Mistral 3.1 in tasks related to coding, comprehension, and reasoning.

Meanwhile, Llama 4 Maverick is a more powerful model that aims to compete with OpenAI’s GPT-4 and DeepSeek-V3. Meta emphasized that Maverick delivers comparable performance while using fewer active parameters, making it more efficient. These models are already being integrated into Meta’s suite of products, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, showing Meta’s ambition to embed cutting-edge AI into everyday communication platforms.
