Meta’s CTO on AI: Why Google Might Struggle While Others Thrive

Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth, recently shared his thoughts on the current AI competition among major tech companies, suggesting that Google might face significant challenges in the AI era compared to other tech giants.

Bosworth pointed out that historically, dominant companies don’t always transition well into new technological eras, leaving room for AI-focused startups and flexible tech giants to rise. While Google is a leader in AI research, its core business model—relying on ad revenue from search—might make it difficult to fully embrace AI-driven changes without disrupting its existing revenue streams.

In contrast, Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon seem better positioned for AI growth. Meta is integrating AI into its social media platforms, Microsoft is embedding AI in business solutions, and Amazon is leveraging AI in its AWS cloud services. Amazon has also made significant investments in AI startups like Anthropic, ensuring its foothold in AI research and development.

Bosworth emphasized that while big tech companies have an advantage in terms of resources, startups are often the real disruptors in emerging technology fields. The AI industry is still evolving, and it’s unclear which companies will lead the way in the coming years.
